Eleni Economou

Eleni Economou (b. 1981) lives and works in Nicosia. She studied sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts in Greece. Between 2002 and 2003, she obtained a grant from S.S.F. and attended the Slade School of Fine Arts, University College London, UK, achieving the highest grade (A). Her first solo show Archetypes was held at Argo Gallery, Nicosia, in 2010. Her most recent group shows include: Group show, Lola Nikolaou Gallery, Thessaloniki (2012), Encounters: Eclectic Affinities with the Art of Phaedon Anastasiadis, Teloglion Foundation of Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2012) and at Melina Merkouri Municipal Hall, Athens (2011), Young Artists, University of Ioannina Awards of the Cultural Centre of Peristeras Monastery, Ioannina Municipal Art Gallery, Ioannina (2011), 15th Biennale for Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, Thessaloniki, Cyprus participation (2011), Memory Patterns with Giannis Diamantis, Famagusta Gate, Nicosia (2010), Artistic Competition for Young Artists, Ioanina University, Cultural Centre of Peristera Dourouti Monastery (awarded), 2010, World Cup 32 Countries-160 Artists, Fifa Art Collection, South Africa (2010), 13th Biennale for Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, Puglia, Italy, Greek participation, (2008). From 2008-2010 she was awarded a full-time financial grant from the S.S.F. of Greece to pursue her artistic work Studies in the Embroidery of Cyprus. In 2008 she participated in the sculpture workshop on the island of Susac, in Croatia, which was organised by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rijeka.
